Charmed Boulder Opal Necklace
Charmed Boulder Opal Necklace
This is my latest piece. There is a lot of energy coming from this one.
I use mixed metals in a lot in my art. Oxidized silver next to gold looks brilliant and allows the striking colours in the opals to pop.
The sterling silver bar has 9k gold jump rings inlayed. Now that's a process right there!!
The chain is sterling silver incorporating two gold links. Hanging off this crazy pendant are a hand cut Australian blue sapphire, two Queensland Boulder Opals and a salt 'n pepper diamond. All made with mixed metal. I love the sound they make like baby charms in the wind.
The diamond and sapphire are set in 9k gold, while the Opals are set in fine silver on 9k gold stems.
The carat weight of the Opal are TCW: 13.58
Diamond and Sapphire TCW: .495
Length of necklace: 20”, adjustable
The necklace length can be adjusted by hooking the clasp through any of the links.
Being a Lapidarist as well as a jeweller allows me to offer you hand cut Opals. Please be aware that these Opals may have natural pits and markings. They are as nature intended I have only cut, shaped and polished, I have not even tried to remove any imperfections… if you could even call them that.
There is nothing on this earth to rival an Australian Opal. Be it Solid, Boulder. And as you can see I am completely besotted. Their colours are cosmic each one a masterpiece and a landscape so very easy to get lost in. It's incredible really when you think about it. Such spectacular colours born in darkness in the cracks and rocks and never seen until some hard working miner uncovers the secrets. And the time it takes for nature to create these wonders? A mere 5-6 million years for a 1cm piece. So it is so important to at the very least, try and do the Opals I am lucky enough to have in my possession, justice.
If you are like me and see the beauty in natures gifts then you will not be disappointed.
If you've never had a little bit of Australia how better to start than with a collectable piece. Or you may be in love with Opals like me and can't help but add to your collection.
It's believed that over 30 million years ago, silica was released into a solution which filled cracks in the rocks, layers in clay, and even some fossils. Some of them became precious opals.
Opals look amazing and are constantly changing and only when you see them on will you appreciate their true beauty.
*all photos are taken by me on my iPhone in natural sunlight. Sunlight is the best light to see the beauty and intensity of colour in an Opal.
